Representing members' interests
One of ATE's
core functions is to represent employers' interests in the formulation
and implementation of national policies and legislation on labour
relations.
The Labour Institution Act has a provision of establishment of
a tripartite advisory body called LESCO (Labour
Economic Social Council). LESCO was established in September 2005
and has so far conduced three important meetings on implementation
of the new labour law regime. ATE represent all Tanzanian employers
in LESCO, where we have until now primarily used
our influence to put pressure on the Ministry of Labour, Employment
and Youth Development to finally implement the new labour laws.
We are - and hope all our members are too - ready to reap the
benefits of the improved labour relation rules and procedures.
ATE participates in several other tripartite forums to raise the employers' voice and to become knowledgeable about
various labour issues. We often invite or even delegate it to
members to represent ATE in such forums. So please inform the
ATE secretariat if you wish to offer your resources in this way.
We will of course - through the newsletters - keep you informed
about the topics discussed in these forums, so that you can put
forward your views to us.
We are a member of the tripartite HIV/AIDS Working Group and participated recently in a workshop where we prepared the
"Tripartite Code of Good Conduct on HIV/AIDS at Workplaces
in Tanzania".
We are very active participating in the tripartite Occupational
Health and Safety (OHS) framework as a Member of the
Ministerial Advisory Board of OSHA. Every year we take part in
the commemoration of the International Safety Day in April. |
