The Association of Tanzania Employers (ATE) formerly known as the Federation of Tanganyika Employers (FTE) is Tanzania’s apex Employers’ Organisation. It was formed in 1960 by number of companies, industries and association of employers.

50 years on, and stronger
Commemorating 50 years of service, the Association of Tanzania Employers hosted a dinner at the Kilimanjaro Kempinski Hotel. The dinner gala was honoured by His Excellency Benjamin W. Mkapa, former President of the United Republic of Tanzania. With 50 years of progress the Association felt it was the right time to re-brand its image. The new look of the corporate logo reflects modernity and simplicity. The new logo was unveiled by the Chief Guest. At the dinner, past and present Chairmen and Executive Directors of the Association were recognised and awards were presented by the Chief Guest. Earlier in the day a High Level Conference under theme “Implication of EAC Common Market Protocol to Tanzanian Employers” was held at the Movenpick Hotel. The conference was officiated by the Director General (Customs and Trade) East African Community; Mr Peter N. Kiguta who represented Ambassador Juma V. Mwapachu, Secretary General of East African Community.

At present the ATE has over 1000 registered members, of whom 70 per cent are based in Dar es Salaam and the remaining 30 per cent are scattered in the regions of Mainland Tanzania. The members are classified in the following 8 divisions:

- Banking and Finance Division
- Oil Industry Division
- Utilities and Services Division

Employer of the Year Award 2010 |

Tanzania Cigarette Company Tanzania (TCC) was crowned the overall winner of the Fourth Employer of the Year Award organized by the Association of Tanzania Employers after beating 84 organisations. The award giving ceremony was held on the 30th June 2010, at the Kilimanjaro Hotel Kempinski. Tanzania Cigarette Company manufacturer and distributor of cigarettes beat Standard Chartered Bank which emerged second. Speaking at the dinner the Chairperson of ATE, Advocate Cornelius Kariwa said, “In the spirit of promoting best practices in Human Resources Management the Association launched the Employer of the Year Award five years ago with the aim of recognising employers who excel in adopting best practices. Through the awards members are able to benchmark themselves and share knowledge in Human Resources Management.” Standard Chartered, the overall winner last year came second with the Silver Award while BP Tanzania went home with the Bronze Award as the second runners up.
